🟡 Launching the Expert Interview Series on Body Integrity Dysphoria

📣 A New Initiative

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Expert Interview Series on BodyIntegrityDysphoria.com — a new initiative committed to deepening public and professional understanding of Body Integrity Dysphoria (BID). Through this series, we aim to foster meaningful, informed dialogue by highlighting the voices of those who have devoted their research, clinical practice, or advocacy efforts to this complex and misunderstood medical condition.

🎯 Why This Series?

BID remains one of the least recognised and most ethically sensitive conditions in contemporary neuropsychology and medical ethics. Despite increasing scientific interest, misunderstandings persist both within the clinical community and among the public. This series was created to give space to the individuals who have worked directly with BID — whether as researchers, therapists, or scholars — and to learn from their insight and experience.

🧠 What to Expect

Each interview is curated and designed by  Leandro Loriga, Ph.D, founder of BodyIntegrityDysphoria.com, in support of the platform’s mission to become a leading resource for BID-related research, education, and outreach.

The conversations are guided by a commitment to academic rigour, clinical sensitivity, and ethical awareness. New interviews will be published on a regular basis, offering ongoing perspectives from experts across disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, ethics, and patient advocacy.

👤 Launching with Prof. Dr. Erich Kasten

We are proud to open the series with an interview featuring Prof. Dr. Erich Kasten, a leading figure in the academic study of Body Integrity Dysphoria. As a neuropsychologist and former professor at the Medical School Hamburg, Prof. Kasten was among the first to explore BID from a neurological perspective, helping shift the narrative away from outdated psychiatric models.

His decades of work on body image, identity, and neuropsychological misperception have made a lasting contribution to the field. This interview offers both historical context and fresh insight into the clinical and ethical challenges surrounding BID — and sets the tone for the quality and depth of the interviews to follow.
