So, I've been wondering what would happen if I really dove deep into BID with my therapist. Is there even a slim chance I could get a referral to a surgeon? Maybe that insurance would cover?Â
I know the chance of upper knee amputation isn't likely, and that I've low-key accepted. But I'm always curious if they could help safely with my fingers.Â
Sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask- but there's been that sliver of hope that a doctor could help in a way that also won't hurt the bank.
And if not
- Â in the future do you think BID would be accepted as something treatable in a hospital setting?Â
- has anyone spoken to a therapist about their BID experiences?Â
Thank you! I look forward to speaking to everyone and hope everyone has a wonderful, safe, week
The medical community at this point will not recognize BID. They believe that those who suffer from BID are delusional, which is not true. A therapist cannot get you a surgeon. One person said they use Dr. First as a psychiatrist, and he told her to save up money, find a gatekeeper, and get it done. The only thing therapy can do for you is to find acceptance that you have this need, and you should not be ashamed that you have this need. If you force it, never say you suffer from BIID; it will not go well, and they will refuse to amputate a very damaged limb.Â
In any case, this is what this group is trying to do: to educate the medical community and, at some point, maybe get recognition for our needs. We are just not there yet, and it will not be easy. Maybe one day, but not now.
