Hi everyone,
First of all, I understand that this space is for individuals with BIID to find support and community, and so, as a non-devotee and non-wannabe, I apologize for my intrusion into your space. I wanted to reach out because I'm a student conducting a research project on how people in the medical field perceive BIID in an attempt to expand access to effective methods of treatment (such as surgery). To conduct this study, I'd like to expose participants with a background in the medical field to the lived experiences of those who suffer from BIID, as many of you do. I'd conduct interviews both before and after the treatment to understand how effective it is in making medical providers more willing to perform body-affirming surgery.

To make this treatment most effective, I was hoping to accurately tell the story of your experiences using testimonies, whether written, spoken, or filmed. All information disclosed would be kept completely anonymous. If any of you are at all interested in being a part of this journey, I would greatly appreciate it if you would reach out to me at tothemoon2113@... so we can get in contact about the process.

For more information on my project, take a look at a short presentation I've created: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XlStqGpTycNWxeoCbtr-MRlq84KF3fOtBOvrl57JzYs/edit?usp=sharing

Thank you so much for your consideration,
Ella

Hi Ella,

Thanks for joining the community.

Just a couple of points from my side.

This space is not only for individuals affected by BID, but also for those seeking to bridge knowledge and foster dialogue between the BID community, the public, and the medical field. You can read more in our mission statement. Hence, there is no need to apologise for being here; you are very much welcome.

Your message could benefit from a bit more clarity and transparency. You mention being a student, but the details of what and where are missing.

About conducting interviews before and after the treatment. It’s not entirely clear what treatment you’re referring to. Do you mean before and after participants are exposed to testimonies, or before and after an actual surgical intervention? Clarifying this would help readers understand the purpose and scope of your study.

Your email address appears censored by the system (tothemoon2113@...), so you might want to re-post it in a clearer format if you’d like people to reach out.

Lastly, I read your presentation. Although nicely put together, there are a few points that could benefit from further study.

Appreciate your interest and initiative.

Ella,

Good, you made it here.  As you see, it is not really a support group but more in line with what you are trying to do.  To educate the medical community on BID.  One thing about your power points, do not refer to BID as Transabled.  That is not what it is all about, and we do not like the term.  People are looking for their proper bodies and are not necessarily looking to be disabled.

Hi Leandro and Johnsco21,

Thanks so much for the feedback. Hopefully the system doesn’t continue to censor it, but my email is tothemoon2113@gmail.com. For more clarity about my project, I’ve attatched my final project proposal  - from which I cut out any references to the term “transabled” to avoid offending or inaccurately portraying the community. I'd love it if you could reach out to me via email if you'd be at all interested in helping with this project, as I don't check this forum very often.

Thanks so much,

Ella
